Accenture Acquires Ookla, Owner of Speedtest and Downdetector, in $1.2 Billion Deal

Accenture, a leading IT consultant and services provider, has announced its agreement to purchase Ookla, the company behind Speedtest and Downdetector, from Ziff Davis for $1.2 billion in cash. The acquisition, which also includes Ekahau and RootMetrics, is part of Accenture's strategy to enhance its offerings for communications service providers, hyperscalers, government entities, and other customers by integrating Ookla's data products.

Ookla's platform provides valuable tools for troubleshooting and designing wireless networks, monitoring mobile network performance, and identifying incidents quickly. Accenture plans to leverage data from Ookla's services to support various applications, such as ensuring the resilience of AI infrastructure and edge datacenters, improving fraud prevention in banks, conducting smart home analytics, and optimizing retail traffic.

Manish Sharma, Accenture's chief strategy and services officer, highlighted the importance of Ookla's tools in building high-performance environments essential for competitive connectivity. Ookla's products, including Speedtest and Downdetector, are widely used for testing internet speeds and monitoring the status of online services. The company reports 250 million consumer-initiated tests per month and employs approximately 430 people. In 2025, Ookla generated $230.7 million in revenue and had a net income of $76.1 million.

Ziff Davis, which acquired Ookla in 2014 for $15 million, expects the sale to close in the coming months. Accenture CEO Julie Sweet expressed confidence that the acquisition will help clients across business and government scale AI safely and build trusted data foundations for reliable connectivity.

Speedtest and Downdetector are popular tools for both consumers and businesses. Speedtest gathers and analyzes data on mobile network samples, measuring radio signal levels, network coverage, and quality of experience metrics. Its B2B customers include telecommunications operators, regulatory bodies, and nonprofits. Downdetector Explorer is used by businesses to detect outages, serving clients such as streaming services, banks, and communication service providers.

Upon completion of the acquisition, Accenture plans to operate Ookla's business as it currently does, while individual users will be subject to a new privacy policy and any potential changes implemented by Accenture. The acquisition aligns with Accenture's goal of enhancing its capabilities in providing seamless connectivity and data-driven insights to its clients.
