Anthropic Enhances Claude AI with Expanded Memory and Data Import Tools

Anthropic has introduced significant updates to its Claude AI, aiming to attract users from competing chatbot platforms by enhancing its memory features and simplifying data transfer processes. The latest update extends Claude's memory capabilities to users on the free plan, a feature previously exclusive to those with paid subscriptions. This strategic move allows users to import and export memories, facilitating a smoother transition for those switching from other AI services like OpenAI's ChatGPT or Google's Gemini.

The memory feature, initially launched in October, enables users to activate it through the 'settings' menu under 'capabilities.' This section now also includes a new tool designed to import data from other chatbots. Users can utilize a pre-written prompt to extract data from their current AI and then input this information into Claude's system, ensuring continuity in the context and history that their previous chatbot had accumulated.

These enhancements come as Claude AI gains traction in the market, bolstered by the introduction of tools such as Claude Code and Claude Cowork. Last month, Anthropic released its Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6 models, which are touted for their improved performance in coding and handling complex tasks, such as spreadsheet management and form completion.

In addition to technological advancements, Anthropic has recently been in the spotlight for its stance against the Pentagon's requests to relax the restrictions on its AI models. The company has publicly committed to maintaining strict boundaries, particularly concerning mass surveillance and the development of fully autonomous lethal weapons, reinforcing its ethical guidelines in AI deployment.
