Lucasfilm's president and chief creative officer, Dave Filoni, has shared insights into the upcoming film "The Mandalorian and Grogu," which is set to bring Star Wars back to theaters for the first time in six years. Filoni, who serves as a co-writer and second-unit director for the film, emphasized that this new installment represents a distinct era in the Star Wars saga, differing significantly from "The Force Awakens" and other previous entries.

In an interview with Empire magazine, Filoni highlighted the evolution of the franchise since the original trilogy, noting that "Episode VII was a completely different entity." He reflected on his own anticipation for a continuation of the series after "Return of the Jedi," expressing that the current landscape of Star Wars is markedly different from what fans might have expected following the original films.

Filoni described "The Mandalorian and Grogu" as "a big celebration" of the titular characters, Din Djarin and Grogu, the latter affectionately known by fans as "Baby Yoda." While specific plot details remain undisclosed, it is clear that the film will focus heavily on this beloved duo.

One character who seems unlikely to appear in the upcoming film is Boba Fett. Actor Temuera Morrison, who portrayed the iconic bounty hunter, recently indicated that his character has been "shelved" for the time being. Morrison humorously compared his situation to being "like a jar of peaches," suggesting that Boba Fett's return, whenever it may occur, will be "sweeter." The character was last seen in "The Book of Boba Fett," which concluded in early 2022.

"The Mandalorian and Grogu" is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 22. Following this, the next Star Wars project on the horizon is the animated series "Maul – Shadow Lord," set to premiere on Disney Plus on April 6. Fans of the franchise can look forward to a variety of upcoming Star Wars movies and shows as the saga continues to expand.

The film will feature a cast including Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward, and Jeremy Allen White as the voice of Rotta the Hutt. Other notable cast members include Jonny Coyne and Hemky Madera as Imperial Warlords, with Dave Filoni himself voicing characters Trapper Wolf and Embo. The movie promises to explore the aftermath of the Empire's fall, with the New Republic enlisting the help of Din Djarin and Grogu to maintain the peace fought for by the Rebellion.
