The US version of TikTok is facing service disruptions due to an outage at an Oracle data center in Ashburn, Virginia. This incident marks the second time in recent months that TikTok has experienced such issues, following a similar outage in February. The disruption began early Tuesday afternoon, with reports on Downdetector indicating a spike in problems around 1 PM Eastern time. TikTok USDS, the joint venture responsible for the app's operations in the US, acknowledged the issue in a post on X, informing users that they "may temporarily experience lags in posting content while Oracle works to resolve the issue."

This latest outage comes after a significant change in TikTok's ownership structure in the US. In January, a deal was finalized that shifted majority ownership away from ByteDance, the app's original Chinese owner, to TikTok USDS, a joint venture that includes Oracle. The February outage, which also affected TikTok's US operations, was attributed to a power outage at an Oracle data center.

The repeated disruptions highlight ongoing challenges in maintaining seamless service for TikTok users in the US. As Oracle continues to address the current outage, users are advised to expect temporary difficulties in using the platform, particularly when posting content. The situation underscores the critical role of data center reliability in the functioning of major digital platforms and the potential impact of technical issues on user experience.
