Samsung Unveils Galaxy S26 Series with Enhanced Camera Features

Samsung has introduced its latest Galaxy S26 series at the Unpacked 2026 event, claiming it offers the most powerful Galaxy experience to date. While the new models, including the S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra, appear to be incremental updates of the previous S25 series, the company has placed significant emphasis on the camera capabilities of the new phones. Despite the camera hardware remaining largely unchanged, with the exception of the S26 Ultra's main camera now featuring an f/1.4 aperture, Samsung has implemented several software enhancements to improve the photography experience.

The S26 series continues to feature three rear cameras on the S26 and S26+, and a fourth on the S26 Ultra, along with a 12MP selfie camera across all models. Notably, the new AI processor enhances detail in images, particularly in challenging lighting conditions. The phones can now add virtual light to balance out overly bright images and improve video capture in low-light environments, expanding on Samsung's "Nightography" feature.

Video capabilities have also been upgraded, with the introduction of "Super Steady with Horizontal Lock" to stabilize shots automatically. The S26 Ultra includes professional video features such as support for the APV video codec, allowing for high-quality video editing and the ability to record to external storage. Users can also apply LUTs when shooting in log to customize color grading.

Samsung has introduced Ocean Mode, a feature previously available only to professionals, which allows for detailed underwater photography as part of the Expert RAW setting. In a surprising twist, Samsung revealed that the entire Unpacked event was livestreamed using S26 Ultra cameras, marking a first for the company.

Galaxy AI also brings new functionalities to the S26 series, including a document scanner that can remove unwanted elements from scans and combine multiple scans into a single PDF. Additionally, the AI supports prompt-based editing, enabling users to merge photos seamlessly, swap outfits, or make other creative edits.

While these enhancements may not individually justify an upgrade from the S25 series, they demonstrate Samsung's confidence in the S26's camera capabilities. The improvements in low-light photography and professional video features may appeal to photography enthusiasts and budding cinematographers. However, the true performance of these cameras will be determined once reviewers have the opportunity to test them thoroughly.
