US President Donald Trump has expressed his dissatisfaction with the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's new supreme leader. Trump had previously warned against selecting the son of the assassinated Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, amidst escalating tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran. As the conflict continues, some of Trump's domestic critics have questioned his strategy, pointing to the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as evidence of a lack of clear objectives. Democratic Congressman Jake Auchincloss criticized Trump for replacing one "terrorist dictator" with another, predicting further regional instability and a potential nuclear arms race, a claim Iran denies.
