Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Ukraine is prepared to provide defensive systems and assistance to Middle Eastern countries and American soldiers stationed there, as the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran intensifies. This offer includes Ukrainian technology to combat Iranian drones in exchange for advanced US defensive systems to aid Ukraine in its ongoing war with Russia.

The conflict began 10 days ago when the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran, resulting in the death of Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran has targeted Israel and US military assets, as well as infrastructure in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. As these countries attempt to intercept incoming threats with US-supplied air defenses, the US has requested Ukraine's assistance in bolstering these efforts.

The US currently uses advanced systems such as the Patriot, THAAD, and AWACS to intercept Iranian drones and missiles. However, these systems are costly, and there are concerns about the depletion of US interceptor missile supplies. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy confirmed that the US has requested Ukraine's help in defending against Iranian missile attacks, particularly those involving Shahed drones.

The Shahed-136 drones, designed by Iran, are low-cost "kamikaze" drones that have been used to target Middle Eastern countries hosting US military assets. These drones are significantly cheaper than the interceptors used by the US, prompting a need for more cost-effective solutions. Ukraine, having faced similar threats from Russian attacks using Iranian drones, has developed low-cost interceptor drones priced between $1,000 and $2,000.

Zelenskyy has expressed Ukraine's readiness to assist Middle Eastern countries by providing technical expertise and deploying interceptor drones and specialists to protect US military bases, such as those in Jordan. He has also engaged in discussions with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE about countering threats from Iran.

Despite Ukraine's willingness to assist, Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of maintaining Ukraine's own air defenses. However, with the mass production of interceptor drones, Ukraine may be able to share its capabilities. Zelenskyy has proposed an exchange of air defense systems with the US, highlighting the cost-effectiveness of Ukrainian solutions compared to the expensive US systems.

Analysts suggest that by offering assistance, Ukraine not only supports potential allies in the Middle East but also highlights the disparity in US support for Ukraine. European countries, including the UK, France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Italy, have also pledged defensive support to Gulf nations, while Australia has deployed military assets to the region.

As Ukraine becomes involved in the conflict, experts warn of potential Russian involvement. Russia could benefit from the situation, as the conflict has led to increased oil prices and a relaxation of US restrictions on Russian energy exports. This, coupled with the diversion of air defense munitions from Europe to the Middle East, could provide advantages to Moscow.
