WHO Warns of Health Risks Following Israeli Strikes on Iranian Oil Facilities

The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed serious concerns about the potential public health impacts following Israeli military strikes on Iranian oil facilities. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus highlighted the heightened risks to children and the elderly due to the damage inflicted on these petroleum sites. In a statement released on Monday, Tedros warned that the attacks could lead to contamination of essential resources such as food, water, and air, posing severe health threats particularly to vulnerable populations including those with pre-existing medical conditions.

The Iranian government reported that the strikes targeted oil facilities in Tehran and the nearby province of Alborz. Israel claimed responsibility for the attacks, stating that the facilities were used to support military infrastructure. The resulting explosions sent massive flames and thick black smoke billowing into the sky over Tehran, with reports of oil-laden rain falling in parts of the country.
